The printed card sets (each row shows 4 items for one round)
How to play — spoken (adult + child)
Keep the card sheet turned away from your child at first.
Say 3, 4, or 5 words clearly, e.g. "Apple, banana, grapes, car."
Ask your child to repeat all the words back to you.
Then ask: "Which one is the odd one out — and why?"
Reveal the picture card so they can check.
Next round: try a longer list, or say the words only once.
Online version
On a tablet or phone, Odd One Out is a picture game (tap the one that doesn’t belong). Use this printable sheet when you want the spoken memory version the specialist described.
🎛️ Adjusting the difficulty
🟢
Make it easier: show the picture card while you say the words, so your child has visual support, or start with just 3 items instead of 4.
🔴
Make it harder: say the items only once with no repeats, or ask your child to explain the shared category of the 3 matching items (not just spot the odd one).
